Background: First trimester (first 12 weeks of pregnancy) is the most crucial time period of pregnancy. Bleeding per vagina in the first trimester is one of the most common obstetric problems. one of the commonest causes for the majority of the emergency admissions and also common reason for ultrasound examination in the first trimester.
Methods: The study was prospective and longitudinal design. Total 60 patients were included in this study according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: 30% patient had history of abortifacient intake,70% had no history of abortifacient intake. 55% patient had mild bleeding,30% had moderate bleeding,15% had heavy bleeding, those who had heavy and moderate bleeding all were aborted, those who had mild bleeding 30.31% had aborted,6.06% underwent laparotomy for ectopic pregnancy,21.21% delivered at term,42.42% delivered at preterm, this was statistically significant.
Conclusion: First trimester vaginal bleeding can be a predicting factor for late trimester pregnancy outcome, both maternal and fetal outcomes. first trimester vaginal bleeding correlates with an increased rate of PPROM, preterm delivery, PIH, PLACENTA PREVIA, and increased chances of various type of abortions, ectopic pregnancy and various neonatal complication.
